Tree removal cost in Grand Junction
A price range you can check
For a 30 to 60 foot tree in an open yard, our estimate for Grand Junction is $420 to $750, before stump grinding or hauling. That comes from national cost guides adjusted by the local price index. Nearby houses or power lines and hard access raise it. It is an estimate until a crew sees the tree.

The table behind the number
We average two published guides for each height, then multiply by 0.95476, the 2024 Regional Price Parity for Grand Junction, and round to $10. That index covers all goods and services, not tree work, so it is a rough local adjustment. Fixr uses wider top bands, so those rows are the nearest match.

| Under 30 feet | $285 to $435 | $150 to $400Up to 30 feet | $217.5 to $417.5 | $210 to $400 |

What moves the price
Premiums, and how sure we are
Published guides agree that obstacles and access matter, but few publish a number we could read. We show which figures are sourced and which are our own assumptions, so you can weigh them. Premiums multiply the base price. Stump grinding and hauling add on after that.
| Factor | Effect | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Close to a house, fence or other structure | Times 1.3 to 1.6 | The 30 to 60 percent premium one calculator site publishes. It is the only figure we could read, so it is weak evidence. Source. |
| Within reach of power lines | Times 1.5 to 2 | Our assumption, not a sourced figure. The utility may need to clear lines first, which can change the price and the timing. |
| Backyard, through a gate | Times 1 to 1.25 | Our assumption, inside the limit from GoTreeQuotes. Source. |
| No truck access, everything carried out | Times 1.25 to 1.5 | Our assumption. GoTreeQuotes says an open yard might be nearly 50 percent cheaper than a backyard, and we stay at that level. Source. |
| Thick trunk | Moves up a size class | 15 inches or more prices as a 30 to 60 foot tree, 20 or more as 60 to 80 feet, 25 or more as over 80 feet, from the classes Fixr describes. |
| Stump grinding | Adds $130 to $490 | Average of $180 to $525 from Lawn Love and $100 to $500 from Fixr, times 0.95476. A big stump can cost more, at $2 to $5 per diameter inch. See stump grinding. |
| Haul away | Adds $100 to $190 | $100 to $200 from Lawn Love, times 0.95476. Some quotes already include this, so ask. |
Not in the range
What this will not tell you
Our range covers a normal planned removal. It leaves out emergencies, travel, and anything a crew only sees on site, like rot, a lean or a tree over a roof. Guides also disagree widely. Lawn Love says the national average is $850, Thumbtack says $985, and Fixr says $435, so treat any single figure with care.
- Emergency work: $450 to $3,000 nationally, on a very different footing from planned work
- Travel fee: $50 to $200 when a crew drives more than 30 minutes
- Permits: free for Grand Junction right-of-way trees, and most private trees need none. Check your address
- A fallen tree can cost less: $90 to $300 nationally
- We could not read Angi, HomeGuide, Forbes Home, U.S. News 360 Reviews, which block automated requests, so they are not in these numbers

Short answers
Cost questions, answered first
Short answers from the guides and local index on this page. A written quote is the number that counts.
How much does tree removal cost in Grand Junction?
Our planning estimate runs from $210 to $400 for a tree under 30 feet to $1,170 to $1,910 for one over 80 feet. Those are open-yard ranges from national guides, adjusted by the local price index, before premiums or extras. Nearby structures, lines and access can raise them substantially. Only a written quote is a real price.
Is it cheaper in Grand Junction than elsewhere?
Prices overall run about 4.5 percent below the U.S. average, according to the federal price index for 2024. That covers all goods and services, not tree work specifically, and we apply it because no public local tree price survey exists that we could find. Local labor and fuel may move tree prices differently.
Why does a tree near my house cost more?
A tree that cannot simply fall gets taken down in pieces, usually with ropes. That takes more people, time and insurance risk. One calculator publishes a 30 to 60 percent premium near houses, the only figure we could read. Near power lines the utility may have to clear lines first. See how removal works.
Is stump grinding included?
Usually not, so ask, because guides treat it as a separate charge. We add $130 to $490 when you tick that box, based on two guides. Big stumps can cost more. Colorado 811 says to call before removing tree roots, so allow at least 3 full business days for marks.
Why is this a range and not a set price?
No two trees cost the same, and GJ Tree Co does not set prices. The crew that does the work sets the price after seeing the tree. We show public figures and our math so you can judge a quote when you get one. The crew gives you a written price for your tree before work starts.
